Because at the end of the day, we’re not just working on homes – we’re protecting what matters most.

Our Story Begins in 1963
We’re more than just builders–we’re part of Indiana’s history. Since 1963, the Pritchett family has poured heart, sweat, and skill into projects big and small. From the brick sidewalks of Fountain Square to the grand halls of the West Baden Hotel, our work has helped shape this community.
What started as a three-man operation by Richard, Charles. and Earl Pritchett has grown into generations of family and team members dedicated to doing things the right way. We’ve restored landmarks, built up businesses, and created homes that last. Take a look at our timeline to see just how far we’ve come–and the legacy we’re proud to keep building.
Between 1970 and 1987, the second generation of Pritchetts–Ron, Joe, Scott, Ed, and Jon–joined the family business, each bringing fresh energy, strong work ethic, and a deep respect for the values established by Richard and Charles. Their involvement marked a turning point in the company’s growth, as they expanded services, embraced new techniques, and strengthened the company’s reputation throughout the region. Together, they honored the legacy they inherited while laying a strong foundation for continued success rooted in craftsmanship, integrity, and family tradition.

The Restoration of Cedar Farm (1984)
In 1984, Pritchett Brothers played a pivotal role in the historic restoration of Cedar Farm, one of Indiana’s most iconic antebellum mansions. Partnering with Bloomington preservationists Bill and Gayle Cook, the team brought new life to this architectural gem overlooking the Ohio River.
Once home to Civil War–era history and Southern charm, Cedar Farm had long been in disrepair. But with a deep respect for craftsmanship and heritage, the restoration turned the home into a symbol of perseverance, beauty, and historic preservation done right.
As featured in the local paper, this project was more than a renovation–it was a revival of Indiana’s rich architectural past.
“The house we’ve been waiting for,” said Gayle Cook–and the legacy built there still stands strong today.
Restoring Legends: How Pritchett Brothers Helped Bring Indiana’s Grandest Hotels Back to Life (1996 -2007)

From 1996 to 2007, Pritchett Brothers Roofing & Exteriors played a pivotal role in one of Indiana’s most extraordinary preservation projects–the awe-inspiring revival of the West Baden Springs Hotel and the French Lick Springs Hotel. Once hailed as the “Eighth Wonder of the World,” the West Baden Hotel had slipped into dangerous disrepair, its grandeur fading with time. That is, until a visionary partnership with The Cook Group and Indiana Landmarks brought it back from the brink–and Pritchett Brothers was at the heart of it all.
As the primary Phase I contractor, the Pritchett team took on some of the most complex and delicate tasks of the restoration. They executed critical structural reinforcements beneath the towering dome, replaced over 465,000 pounds of deteriorated roofing, meticulously reconstructed the ornate scalloped parapet walls, and led the reinstallation of the majestic Moorish towers–each weighing nearly 19,000 pounds, lifted into place by helicopter. Every element was handled with surgical precision and a craftsman’s respect for the hotel’s original splendor.
Meanwhile, the neighboring French Lick Springs Hotel underwent a stunning $382 million transformation, blending modern luxury with timeless elegance. The two hotels, once forgotten landmarks, were reborn as vibrant destinations–creating jobs, drawing tourism, and revitalizing the cultural soul of Southern Indiana.
For Pritchett Brothers, this restoration wasn’t just another project–it was a legacy-defining achievement. A family-owned contractor from Bedford, Indiana, had helped resurrect two of the state’s greatest architectural icons. It was a perfect testament to the values that built the company: integrity, excellence, and a deep-rooted passion for preserving Indiana’s history–one masterpiece at a time.

A Second Life for Beck’s Mill: Restoring Indiana’s Historic Treasure (2008)

Tucked in the rolling hills of Washington County, Beck’s Mill stood for nearly two centuries as a silent witness to Indiana’s early days. Built in 1808 and operated by generations of the Beck family, the mill once served as a lifeline to nearby farming communities–grinding corn and wheat with the rush of spring-fed water. But by the early 2000s, time and neglect had brought the historic structure dangerously close to collapse.
In 2006, longtime preservation champions Bill and Gayle Cook stepped in with a vision: to save Beck’s Mill not as a relic, but as a living piece of Indiana history. With funding and passion from the Cook family, support from Indiana Landmarks, and the expertise of Ridgway Architecture, the project was set in motion. For the hands-on work, they turned to a trusted partner–Pritchett Brothers of Bedford, IN.
Known for their award-winning craftsmanship in historical restoration, the Pritchett team–led on-site by foreman Tracy Wells–carefully dismantled the decaying mill machinery, reinforced the crumbling stone foundation, and restored the original milling equipment to working order. Every beam and board were handled with care, preserving the authentic character of the original 1808 build.
By September 2008, Beck’s Mill reopened to the public, not just as a museum, but as a fully functional water-powered mill–the only one of its kind still operating in Indiana.
Today, visitors walk the shaded trails, hear the roar of the water wheel, and watch grain ground the way it was 200 years ago. The site is part of Washington County’s Park system and stands as a symbol of what’s possible when skilled hands, generous hearts, and community spirit come together.
For Pritchett Brothers, it was more than a job–it was a chance to help breathe life back into a vital part of Indiana’s story. And for the Cooks, it was one more chapter in their legacy of preserving the places that shape our past and enrich our future.
Indiana Landmarks Center – A Revival of Sacred Craft (2010)

In 2010, Pritchett Brothers Roofing & Exteriors was honored to serve as the general contractor for the extraordinary restoration of the former Central Avenue United Methodist Church–now known as the Indiana Landmarks Center in downtown Indianapolis. In partnership with Indiana Landmarks, the Cook family, and renowned architect George Ridgway, our team helped breathe new life into this architectural gem. We restored and regilded the building’s iconic towers, revitalized the ornate sanctuary with hand-applied stenciling and gilding, and oversaw the delicate restoration of the historic pipe organ. What once stood vacant, and crumbling was transformed into a world-class cultural venue and headquarters for Indiana Landmarks. This project represents the heart of what we do–preserving the past while building for the future.
Bringing Back the Spotlight: Restoring the Tivoli Theatre in Spencer, IN (2013)
In 2013, Pritchett Brothers had the honor of restoring the historic Tivoli Theatre in Spencer, Indiana–a beloved 1928 landmark that had fallen into decades of disrepair. In partnership with the Cook family, Indiana Landmarks, and local preservationists, we helped bring the theatre back to life with great care and craftsmanship. From repairing structural damage and replacing the roof to recreating the original starry-night ceiling–complete with constellations matching the Tivoli’s original opening night–this project was a true celebration of community and history. Today, the Tivoli once again serves as a vibrant hub for arts and entertainment in Owen County, and we’re proud to have played a part in preserving its magic for generations to come.

Restoring the Red Brick at Otis Park – Bedford, IN (2021)

After a 2020 kitchen fire caused major damage to both the interior and exterior of the historic Red Brick building at Otis Park, the City of Bedford turned to Pritchett Brothers to lead the restoration. Our team carefully replaced fire-damaged bricks, repointed aging mortar, and sealed the exterior to protect its historic character. Inside, we rebuilt smoke-damaged areas, installed new electrical and drywall, and preserved original details wherever possible. Today, the Red Brick stands strong once again–ready to serve as a centerpiece for community events and gatherings in Bedford for years to come.
